The Nichols Group is one of the UK’s leading independent management consultancies, advising on and managing large-scale, complex and rapid changes. Our expertise covers both major capital investments and business change programmes.

Applying our skills in project and programme management, we work closely with our clients, using small, high calibre teams to deliver fast, practical and effective solutions. We employ over 100 people, and in addition draw from a deep pool of associates for specialist skills, with extensive skills and personal experience from the public and private sectors.

Management of large-scale, complex changes is our strength. Our approach is fluid and adaptable and can easily be channelled into tailor-made solutions. Since 1975, we have successfully:

• given strategic advice to many companies on how best to initiate, sponsor and deliver major capital investments
• managed dozens of major projects, programmes and business change initiatives
• improved project and programme management in more than a hundred different organisations
• pioneered developments in project and programme management which have been adopted as core subjects in leading business schools.

We have extensive experience of working with government departments, authorities and agencies; as well as service providers and suppliers, in both the public and private sectors.

We have contributed to many of the major transport projects in the UK that have fuelled economic development in the past three decades. These include the Jubilee Line extension and the Docklands Light Railway.

We helped Transport for London develop a best value transport solution for London’s successful Olympic bid. Then we helped sponsor the Olympic Stadium and other Olympic venues; and advised on baselining, risk management and assurance to control the total cost within the contingency.

We have conducted a number of strategic reviews including:

• West London Tram Project
• Major Roads Programme for the Secretary of State
• Transport Scotland Major Projects
• Network Rail's capacity to deliver the enhancement programme on behalf of the Office of Rail Regulator

Other recent assignments include the development of commercial agreements, identifying and managing strategic risk and the development of concept of operations for Crossrail Ltd., as well as having worked with NERA Economic Consulting to advise Cross London Rail Links on the market capacity for delivering Crossrail.

We are supporting First Great Western to deliver their franchise project and have supported the development and delivery of a joint First Great Western and Network Rail control room in Paddington.

Increasingly we are expanding into other sectors. These include Health, Education, Financial Services and Ports and Marine.
